- 175 Firefighter recipes from 50 States and Washington DC
- Firefighter anecdotes & terminology
- 26 Home Fire Safety Tips (Most Shown Below) throughout the book, which go with illustrations of "CINDERS, The Fire Safety Dog" depicting why we all need to follow these tips. These tips are useful for teaching children fire safety, and reminding adults of lessons learned long ago.
- If your clothes catch fire - Don't Run; STOP - DROP- & - ROLL until the fire is out.
- Never Hesitate! DIAL 911 for firefighters to put out a fire.
- Do NOT dump hot ashes in the trash!
- ROLL THOSE SLEEVES UP before working around the stove.
- OVERLOADED OUTLETS cause FIRES!
- Using highly flammable liquids to light your grille can create a KILLER FIRE!
- DON'T WASTE TIME getting dressed or gathering items of value during a fire. GET OUT!
- OVERSIZED BULBS in an enclosed area generate heat and may start a fire.
- ALWAYS! Place a metal or glass fire screen front of a fireplace when it is in use.
- Inspect your chimney & fireplace AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR!
- NEVER hide under a bed if your house is on fire!
- ALWAYS CLOSE DOORS behind you if there is a fire in the room!
- A smoke alarm wakes you BEFORE the smoke kills you, but only if it's working. Check batteries monthly and change batteries at least TWICE A YEAR. Or sooner if recommended by the manufacturer.
- Flames live when your extinguisher dies. Yours should ALWAYS BE IN OPERATING CONDITION! Service it annually or as needed.
- KEEP FLAMMABLE MATERIALS AWAY FROM, GAS, OIL OR WATER HEATERS!
- Be wise..prevent an early demise...NEVER SMOKE IN BED!
- REMEMBER: Breathe through your nose in smokey conditions. It acts like a filter. If you breathe through your mouth, the smoke will overcome you.
- ALWAYS FEEL A DOOR if you suspect a fire on the other side. If the door feels hot, don't open it. Find another way out!
- ALWAYS keep matches and cigarette lighters away from children.
- If grease on a pot or pan catches fire. Place a metal lid on it to smother the flames, then TURN OFF THE BURNER!
- NEVER!!! Use a candle as a light in a closet or under a bed.
- ALWAYS keep the base of your live Christmas tree well watered to help insure a safe holiday.
- DON'T run electrical wire under rugs, over hooks, or through door openings
- DON'T RISK SPREADING FIRE by carrying a burning pot or other burning objects through the house to a sink to extinguish.
- ALWAYS apply COOL WATER after a burn.
- Hilarious comments on every recipe from CINDERS, the Firefighters' gourmet
Spokesdog

2001 - 2002 Phoenix Burn Society Poster
A Percentage of monies pledged from the sales of The National Firefighters Recipe Book will be used by The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, Inc. to assist children as shown above.
The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors used to have an annual "Poster Child" with a description of events leading to the burn, reconstructive surgeries performed, recovery & rehabilitation, and patient outlook for the future. They have since discontinued this practice, be it for patient privacy, sensitivity, or other reasons not publicly discussed. Whatever their reasons, the society does great work in the rehabilitation of children scarred by burns, and we do our best to support them.
We at ALL HANDS PUBLICATIONS look forward to the sales of THE NATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS RECIPE BOOK in sending many more
children to Burn Camps and assisting THE PHOENIX SOCIETY FOR BURN SURVIVORS in helping them to overcome the pain and suffering.
